What to Cook With Ground Beef and Rice
By SupperScout Editorial Team · Updated October 5, 2026
Ground beef and rice is weeknight infrastructure: brown the meat, cook the rice, pick a flavor direction. The whole decision takes about 30 minutes, most of it unattended.
Pick your direction first
- Taco bowls: season the beef with cumin, chili powder, garlic. Serve over rice with salsa, and whatever toppings exist — cheese, sour cream, shredded lettuce.
- Stuffed peppers: if you have bell peppers, mix the cooked beef and rice, stuff, top with cheese, bake until tender.
- Korean-style bowls: soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger in the beef; serve over rice with a fried egg on top if you have one.
- Dirty rice / Cajun: onion, bell pepper, celery, Cajun seasoning with the beef and rice.
The two technique points that matter
Brown, don't steam: get the pan hot, break the beef up, and let it sit undisturbed so it actually browns — that's where the flavor comes from. Drain the fat if there's a lot; a little left in the pan is fine and carries seasoning. Ground beef must reach 160°F — no pink.
Stretching it
Beans, corn, or diced tomatoes mixed in stretch one pound of beef to feed six. This is also the pair where "use only what I have" mode shines — tell the tool your exact extras and it'll pick the direction for you.
